About Ted:

I was talking to my friend Mike about blogging our running activity.  I thought it might be interesting for others and it will help keep us on track with our running.

A little history on my running:

In 2001, I weighed 262 pounds and smoked.  Mike got me out running in mid-2001 and I took to it like a duck to water.  By June of 2002, I had lost 50 pounds, was averaging 30 miles a week and I ran my first (of two) full marathons.  In 2004, I feel off the running wagon with a brief resurgence in 2006.  Unfortunately, I developed plantar fasciitis during my training for a half-marathon in 2007.  I have mostly been off of running for a year and though I am still not a smoker, I managed to move my weight toward the 245 mark.  I still have the plantar faciitis, but I am going to try to ignore it, and train up for a half-marathon in April of 2009 and a goal of 210 by the half-marathon.

About Mike:

I began running in 1988 in Duluth Minnesota.  My first run I was wearing a pair of coaching shorts, kneehigh tube socks, a gut, and an attitude that I would lose weight or die trying.  After I got out of the hospital (just kidding).

I had an attitude that I needed to get down to 200 lbs from about 245, I told myself that if I could just run for 30 days in a row, I would decide after that if I liked it or not, I was just so tired of trying to lose weight and failing.

Well I decided I liked it and actually got down to about 190 lbs.  I have ran around 8 marathons and 7 half marathons.  Ted and I had a great time running in Texas training at work and running around White Rock Lake and training for Grandmas Marathon.  In fact I suffered my back injury (right between the shoulderblades) while running with Ted.

I have been lazy in the past few years and I only run about 2 days a week which keeps me from getting in shape or losing weight.

I am now beginning my plan to run 5 days a week and get my weight down to 205.

It takes about 4 hours of shopping to find a pair of 38 in waist that fits but I will wear sweatpants for the rest of my life before I buy a pair of 40’s.  My wife has been taking holiday pictures and in each picture I look like I have a mouthful of food but those are the actual size of my cheeks, people who see my picture say I didn’t know Mike was part Asian.

Restarting a program is just plain tough but it is something I want to do.
